Down Sizing Rugs, Down Sizing Kilims in Los Angeles

A client came in a couple of weeks ago looking for a kilim (flat weave) runner. We had several kilims and three kilim runners. She did not like any of them and said she has a kilim which is wide and does not fit the hallway in the house. I told her to bring in the kilim next time she is in the neighborhood so we can take a look at it. I told her that we might be able to down size it to fit the hallway.

Few days ago, she stopped by the kilim runner. The width of the runner was 4′ 11″ and she wanted this to become 3′ 7″ with symmetrical borders. We down-sized the runner to her ideal width and she was very happy with the result of our job. What we did was not cutting the borders. We sewed the borders onto the back of the kilim so if in the future she changes her mind and wants to have a wider runner, we could undo the down sizing of the runner and make it wider.
